Fallout 2 Game

A cancelled Fallout 2 sequel by Black Isle studios is now available to play in Fallout New Vegas courtesy of a new PC mod.

Fallout

The game - which at the time had been codenamed Van Buren - takes place in 2253 and had been set in the great Midwest Commonwealth over four states. Sadly, it was cancelled in 2003, and while New Vegas inherited some aspects from the game, the Revelation Blue mod doesn't 'treat [Fallout: New Vegas] as cannon [sic] in any way'.

'The project's goal is to remake Van Buren for Fallout New Vegas,' explains the mod creator (thanks, PC Gamer).

'Everything from the base game will be included in this remake. We will stay faithful to the original Van Buren story as much as possible, and in the future we plan to add in a large number of customized features. As of now, the project is still a [work in progress].'

Fallout 2 game preferences

When Fallout was released in late 1997, the game garnered high praise from nearly every major publication dealing with the computer game industry. Not surprisingly, the developers have followed up the title with a sequel, Fallout 2.

There are several prerequisites to running it, including a load of FNV mods, so to check your requirements, head to the official mod page.

ICYMI, Fallout 76's big Locked & Loaded update went live last month, adding a raft of new features, chief among them the ability to build a second home. The update also lets you reboot your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. for the first time; after level 25, you can use Punch Card Machines to reset your S.P.E.C.I.A.L., change your perks, and save them into one of two custom loadouts.

Fantasy fans and those with a leaning towards Civ copycats are fairly well catered for by PC games right now. but there are few modem day examples of truly great turn-based games with futuristic leanings. The FalloutRPG series is one of them, and with a complex character development system and many skills to choose from, you can spend literally hours tinkering about with your characters, fine-tuning them until you have a squad that can deal with any situation the game might throw at them. The storyline is way above par given the throwaway plots usually associated with many of Fallout 2's fantasy counterparts, and there are plenty of twistsin the tale along the way. In fact, you can influence the story yourself, to an extent, depending which characters you choose to align with.

On the downside, the interface is a little cumbersome, particularly while moving units around in combat. And the graphics were never going to win any awards when the game was released, so they won't be knocking your socks off now. But if solid gameplay is high on your agenda, for the princely sum of five pounds. Fallout 2 will keep you entertained for a very long time to come.
